New Board Member

We’re excited to welcome our new board member, Pam Rodgers. Pam received her Bachelor's degree in Health and Wellness, which she has used over the past decade, focusing on the physical and mental vitality of senior adults in different senior adult communities. She is currently the Volunteer Coordinator for Ambercare Hospice.  Pam says she decided to become a member of our board of directors because she “believes deeply in our mission to promote physical fitness for seniors 50+.”

Grants

We are proud to announce that at the end of 2024, our organization received numerous
charitable contributions from local foundations and businesses. We were selected to receive a $5,000 grant from Nusenda Foundation’s 2024-25 Community Rewards Program, and we received three Walmart Spark Good grants as well as a grant from Sam’s Club. All of these funds will be used to support promotional efforts for our 2025 Senior Games. This includes the development of our new website, designed by Tom Johnson, which can be accessed at dacso-nm.org.

FIELD OF DREAMS

We are finalizing a contract to hold our 2025 track and field events on the fabulous Field of Dreams Complex, which is owned by Las Cruces Public Schools. The athletes who participated in the 2024 State Senior Olympics gave the Field of Dreams venue rave reviews.

POWERLIFTING

This year we will be hosting our first Power Lifting competitions on Saturday, March 22nd under the direction of Jack Thomas. Competition lifts include 1) squat, 2) bench press, and 3) deadlift. The inclusion of Power Lifting to our roster of games is thanks to the planning efforts of Board Member and athlete, Ann McPhee, who will be competing for the first time in Power Lifting when we hold the competition this Spring.
