Our Vision
Doña Ana County residents 50 years of age and older maintain healthy lifestyles by leading socially and physically active lives.
Our History
The idea of having a coordinated statewide Olympics program for adults 50 and older in New Mexico originated in 1979 with a group of individuals from across the state who were involved in programming for the state’s senior adult population. Once the state’s preparations were made, a handful of localities throughout the state, including Doña Ana County, organized their own county competitions to prepare and qualify their Senior Olympians for the state event. In 1979, 85-90 athletes from Las Cruces participated in the first Senior Olympics competitions. In 1984, the City of Las Cruces donated office space to the group of local volunteers who organized the competitions each year here in Doña Ana County. In 1991, the group incorporated as a nonprofit organization and took the name Dona Ana County Senior Olympics, Inc. (DACSO). DACSO remains an all-volunteer organization that attracts athletes 50 and over from across Doña Ana County, as well as from surrounding counties that may not hold their own regional competitions. A dedicated, intergenerational cadre of 60-80 volunteers work together each year to host and manage the competitions. In 2023, 199 athletes aged 50 to 92, competed in 18 sports events.
